What have you done as a congregation to be stewards of the congregation?
Consider rallying the congregation around some enthusiastic people with a passion for creation. Pick a Sunday, perhaps the last one of each month; encourage the congregation to be stewards of the creation.
Prepare a pamphlet on being green. Invite the congregation to choose “a way to be green,” for Green Sunday. Your pamphlet might include:
* Wear no petroleum products – no makeup, cologne, perfume
* Walk, take public transit, or car pool to get to church
* Eat a breakfast of locally grown food (no bananas or coffee)
* Sink wash rather than shower to save water
* Use organic free trade, locally roasted coffee for fellowship hour
* Consider fasting or going meatless for the day
* Wear an outfit you purchased at a thrift store
* Consider not printing a bulletin
* Lower the heat in your home (and at church) by two degrees for the day
* Collect garbage and recycling found in the church yard (better yet, the neighbourhood)
* Have a book and/or clothing exchange
Have a number of people share, during announcement time, the action they took for the love of creation. Remember to post ideas and pics, #myelcic, all over social media.
