Body Image: How Can We Teach Young Women That Tanning Is Dangerous?

Summer is just around the corner, and too many young women are about to hit the tanning beds (or lie in the sun without sunscreen) despite the fact that they will be increasing their cancer risk.

How do we change the notion that tanned skin represents beauty and promote safer sun habits? How do we reclaim the truth that God loves us just as we are?  Now might be a good time to have a body image conversation with your youth – to talk about how society dictates an idea of beauty that is unhealthy, and unrealistic – and to think about how we might better accept ourselves and others and appreciate our unique qualities.
